While Others Wait: David and Goliath
While others waited, paralyzed by fear, David took action. This classic tale of “slaying your giants” teaches us the power and opportunity of bold, faith-based action. Even when nobody believes in you but your Lord and yourself.Remember: God and you make a majority.

Notes and Quotes:
“While Others Wait: David and Goliath” ~ 1 Samuel 17:1-47
The cure for fear is action
The proof of faith is action
More opportunities are lost through procrastination than from failure.
The willingness to take action is what sets leaders apart
Reasons to delay/postpone/procrastinate:
Danger
Not enough information
Uncertainty and self-doubt
Fear of failure, fear of public opinion; fear of loss; fear of trying to be someone you’re not.
Indecision, uncertainty, lack of confidence, self-doubt, low self-esteem;
Greatness is born through action
Fail your way forward. Learnable skill; experience; improvement; upgrade;;
Fear among the soldiers
Fear of the leadership
Fear of the brothers
Whole army paralyzed by fear
Waiting for someone else to do something
David:
Growth comes from doing what others won’t
From doing what you’ve never done before
Built on previous experience
David’s partnership with god to defend one another’s names
What if you are the “champion”?
What if you have it in you to inspire many others to go for it?
What if whole “armies” are just waiting on someone to show them how, to lead the way, to inspire them, motivate them?
- Opportunity comes in the form of fear
- David’s courage came from his perception of the living god.
28-30. As soon as you decide to do something, those around you will be incensed,
Your courage shines a light on their fear.
They’ve spent years justifying their own fears, and maintaining a sense of righteousness and covering up their own inadequacies. You remind them of what they’ve worked so hard to forget, rationalize, and reframe.
They aren’t going to do anything and they deeply resent the idea of you doing anything.
You will be torn down, attacked, your heart and motives called into question, accused.
Now this is all just the emotional side of it and has nothing to do with reality, facts, odds, research… Its all emotion.
So is fear and courage.
“Fortune favors the bold”
33-36. Logic, odds, circumstances… Analysis and logic said it was out of his reach and impossible.
But David had experience, learnable skills, and a proven track record of similar situations.
- Faith over fear. This was the Lord’s leading, not just David’s idea.
38-40. Used the tools and methods he was familiar with. Used his learnable skills and experiences.
42-43. Underestimated, not outwardly appearing strong or formidable.
45-47. You and God make a majority
The battle is the Lord’s
He gets the glory from you, and you get the glory from others.
- A sling is very deadly and can be used with accuracy. This was not a miracle! It was courage, practice, honed skills and experience, the blessing of God, God-given opportunity, and the courage to act with intention under pressure.
How many battles would the lord fight and win in if only he had someone who would partner in faith and go into battle?
