The Power of Simple Grace

Today my wife took a moment and sent me a text message.

She told me of her love and appreciation for the man I am and for the life we share. She told me of looking forward to seeing me this evening when she gets off work and reconnecting.

She didn’t ask for anything.

She didn’t micromanage to see if I have met my responsibilities today.

She simply loved, encouraged, and appreciated me.

It took her about one minute to do that, but the effect will last all day, and beyond.

The result?

I feel like I’m ten feet tall, and could eat a grizzly bear for breakfast. And because she didn’t ask for anything from me, she can have everything from me. She is welcome to my time, attention, labor, affection, money, the rest of the closet space…

All because she loves me —me, unconditionally.

This is the power of love. This is the strength of grace, where blessing is given, with nothing required in return.

It turns coldness into warmth, estrangement into fellowship, sinners into saints, citizens into soldiers, boredom into adventure, despair into hope, and weaklings into giants.

It wins hearts, dissolves grudges, softens the hard, and encourages the fearful.

It is the driving force behind acts of compassion, generosity, sacrifice, service, and loyalty.

It is seen in a babe cradled in Mother’s bosom, sitting atop a Father’s shoulders, in a bowl of soup in the hands of a refugee, and in a sincere handshake and smile from a genuine Christian.

Most of all it is seen in the heart and actions of the Almighty, when God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to be the greatest act of love and grace ever witnessed. By His grace He has saved us, asking nothing but our acceptance of His free gift.

The result?

We feel like we’re ten feet tall and could eat a grizzly bear for Jesus.

Christ our Savior and King is welcome to our time, attention, labor, affection, money…

Because of His grace our coldness has been turned into warmth, estrangement into fellowship, we who were once sinners are now saints, we who were once mere citizens are now soldiers of the cross. Our boredom has become the great adventure, our despair has turned to hope, and in our weakness lies our strength.

He is the driving force behind a lifetime of acts of compassion, generosity, sacrifice, service, and loyalty.

We love Him because He first loved us.

Today is our day, our turn. We can extend the same grace to the world around us. Everybody needs it, and it doesn’t cost us a thing.

Come on; you can do it.

Who needs a bit of God’s grace from you right now?

All it takes is a minute, a call, a text, a note, a hug, a few words.

God bless you my friend as you share the love of Jesus.
